Field of Remembrance is a series of photographs selected from images taken by Camille Zakharia during his intermittent visits to Lebanon between 2001 and 2016. Zakharia left his native country ten years into the Lebanese civil war in 1985 after graduating from the American University of Beirut. In Field of Remembrance, the images both recall the illusion of a Lebanon that existed before a decade and a half of violence and devastation and dispel the nostalgia for a world that no longer exists.
The book is an investigation of symbols, architecture, and ruins, a deeply personal investigation of the post-war landscape of Lebanon and the possibility of its recovery.
