It's been 101 years since Malcolm X was born and the open edition is priced at £101 to commemorate this.
This photo was taken in Cairo in July/Aug of 1964, months before his assassination in NYC in February, 1965.
John Launois was commissioned by the Saturday Evening Post to take photos of Malcolm X and his image appeared (not this one) on the cover of the edition dated Sep 12, 1964.
In Alex Haley's renowned biography, this citation appears:
"The Saturday Evening Post flew photographer John Launois to Cairo to locate Malcolm X and photograph him in color."
